Mindset

Tiffany Roth emphasizes the pivotal role of mindset in both golf and corporate leadership. How we approach challenges—our mindset—ultimately determines our ability to overcome them.

Mindset, as I've come to understand, isn't a one-size-fits-all concept. It’s the discerning approach to challenges that defines our success. Lou Holtz once said, “It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” This resonates strongly with me, as it reinforces the notion that mindset is what sets us apart. Just as in golf, where each hole presents a new challenge, each day in the corporate world brings its own set of obstacles. How we approach these challenges—the mindset we bring—determines our ability to overcome them.

In golf, I've learned the importance of persistence. No matter how many times I’ve missed a putt or performed below expectations in an event, I keep going. The same perseverance applies in the business world. Growing in your career, spanning years if not decades, often means facing setbacks and criticism. It's about staying committed to the goal, despite the obstacles.

Moreover, golf has taught me patience—a virtue often tested in leadership roles. Waiting for the right moment to take a risk or navigate a complex situation requires calm and calculated decision-making. Patience translates seamlessly into leadership, where timing and composure can influence outcomes significantly.

Just as golfers study the course and adapt their strategies, women in leadership must understand the landscape they navigate. It's about foresight and adaptability—knowing when to drive forward and when to adjust the approach.

Above all, golf has taught me the power of self-belief. Standing alone in the fairway, faced with a challenging shot and hours of golf ahead, it's easy to doubt. But with practice and a resilient mindset, even the toughest obstacles become achievable. The same principle applies to women in leadership—believing in oneself despite the odds.

As we navigate the complexities of leadership, let us remember that mindset is everything—it shapes not only our actions but also our outcomes. Your mindset is your greatest asset.
