In this episode of Women in Golf, we dive deep into the story of Alexis Eader, a dynamic force behind the scenes at Callaway Golf. As the Supervisor of Callaway's internal media production team, Alexis has carved out a unique niche in a male-dominated industry, blending her passion for storytelling with her love for golf.
Alexis's relationship with golf began in an unconventional way. Growing up, she was more inclined towards dance and music, even sporting a dance tank top to her first golf lesson at the age of eight. "I wore a dance tank top from Limited 2 to my lesson," she recalls with a laugh. It wasn't until high school that she found her way back to the sport when friends encouraged her to join the junior varsity golf team. Much to her surprise, she discovered a talent for the game and eventually played on the varsity team during her senior year.
After high school, Alexis pursued her education at the University of Arizona but soon realized that her true calling lay elsewhere. Transferring to Arizona State University, she enrolled in the prestigious Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. It was here that she honed her skills in broadcast journalism, immersing herself in various projects while balancing internships and coursework.
Finding Her Voice Behind the Camera
Despite her early experiences on stage, Alexis initially shied away from being in front of the camera. "I avoided being on camera or in front of people at all costs," she admits. However, as she progressed through her studies, she found herself gravitating towards production and storytelling. Her passion for creating engaging content led her to take on roles that would ultimately shape her career.
During her time at ASU, Alexis interned with various organizations, including covering high school football and working with the Phoenix Suns. These experiences provided her with practical skills and valuable connections that would later prove instrumental in her career.
A Breakthrough Opportunity
After graduating, Alexis landed a position as a production assistant at Fox Sports San Diego. It was a competitive environment where she quickly learned the ropes of sports media. However, fate intervened when she received a call from one of her former professors about an opportunity at Callaway Golf. They were looking for someone to help produce a live web show called Callaway Live.
With enthusiasm and determination, Alexis took on this new challenge while juggling her role at Fox Sports. Her hard work paid off when she transitioned to a full-time position at Callaway just months later. Over the past nine years, she has risen through the ranks from associate producer to supervisor, leading a talented team dedicated to creating compelling content.
Empowering Women in Golf
Today, Alexis plays a pivotal role in shaping Callaway's content strategy, particularly regarding women's initiatives in golf. As part of the Women's Golf Council, she is passionate about ensuring that women's voices are heard and represented within the sport. "One of the biggest initiatives we have is getting more women's content out there," she explains.
Her responsibilities encompass everything from project management to overseeing post-production processes and collaborating with various teams across Callaway's marketing department. Whether coordinating shoots or working closely with brand ambassadors, Alexis is committed to elevating women's representation in golf media.
Reflecting on her journey, Alexis expresses gratitude for the opportunities she's had and the lessons learned along the way. She encourages others to explore their passions and embrace their unique paths within sports media. "There's so much more beyond just being in front of the camera," she emphasizes.
